Lisa Egeli

Egeli was born in Leonardtown, Maryland, to a family of successful artists. Her grandfather was the Norwegian-American portrait painter Bjorn Egeli. Her parents, Peter and Elizabeth, are artists, as are her uncle Cedric, and other family members. She began her art training with her parents and later graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1988.

Egeli has painted portraits for institutions and individuals around the country. Her subjects include the dean of the University of Maryland Medical Center, the adjutant general of the Maryland National Guard, the dean of the George Washington Law School, the president of the Maryland State Senate, and two presidents and the board chair for Washington College. Her portraits hang in numerous public and private collections.

In addition to portraiture, Egeli is an accomplished landscape painter. She has shown her works with Oil Painters of America, the American Society of Marine Artists, and PaintAmerica, among others. Travel to Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and around the United States has fueled her landscape painting. She was selected as Artist in Residence for Sapelo and Ossabaw Islands in 2003 by Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources. She regularly participates in plein air painting events such as Paint Annapolis and Telluride Plein Air.

A fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists, Egeli is also a signature member of Oil Painters of America, and of the Society of Animal Artists. She is a member of the Salmagundi Club in New York and of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Fine Art Connoisseur magazine featured her as one of “Today’s Masters” in its September/October 2009 issue.

Egeli paints portraits and landscapes for a wide range of clients, working from her studio in Maryland, and in Florida during the winter. In 2015, she and her father held a joint exhibition of their landscapes, maritime scenes, and wildlife studies at the Chaney Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland.
