Cedric B. Egeli

Egeli was born in Shady Side, Maryland to a family of successful artists. His father was the Norwegian/American portrait painter Bjorn Egeli, and his mother, Lois, was also an artist. He received early training from his parents and studied at the Corcoran Art School in Washington, D.C. He attended Principia College in Illinois, and studied at the Art Students League of New York and with Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art in Massachusetts.

His portraits are included in the collections of the Pentagon, Duke and Brandeis Universities, and Mount Sinai.

Acclaimed as an artist and teacher, Egeli, founder of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, was elected as ‘Exceptional Member’ of the American Portrait Society. His work was awarded the Grand Prize Medal (Best of Show) in the national portrait art competition conducted in 1979 by the National Portrait Seminar in New York. He won the Corcoran’s Prix de Rome Award while a student at the Corcoran College of Art and the Gold Medal from the American Artists Professional League.

He has served as a faculty member of the National Portrait Seminar and the Maryland Hall for Creative Arts. In addition, Egeli conducts workshops on his Maryland estate and on Cape Cod.

Egeli is part of a family of painters. His two brothers and two sisters, a son, two daughters, a niece and his wife, Joanette, are also artists. Their portrait subjects have included Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon, generals and admirals, members of presidential cabinets, jurists, physicians, corporate executives, governors and a host of celebrities.
