Biography

Suzanne Buckson Crowder was born in Dover, Delaware in 1936. She attended Dover High School from 1950 to 1952 and Northfield School for Girls in Massachusetts from 1952 to 1954. upon graduating from the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1957, she worked as a general staff nurse in the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital until 1958. In 1970, she worked as the editor of the Johns Hopkins Nurses Alumnae Magazine. She worked part time at Stella Maris Hospice in Towson, MD in 1969 and was the Director of staff development there in 1976. In the late 1970s she became the Head Nurse of the student health center at Miss Porter’s School in Connecticut and remained there into at least the mid 1980s. In 1996, she worked as a staff nurse on an inpatient hospice unit.

Scope and Content

The Suzanne Buckson Crowder Collection contains several items from her time as a student in the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing, including a 1954 student nurse dress uniform and cap, a 1957 graduate uniform, a Johns Hopkins Hospital Nursing Arts Procedure Manual, and some loose materials related to her course work.
