Biography

Ruth Weiss Plumb was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Before entering the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing she worked as a psychiatric aide and a licensed practical nurse. She received her nursing diploma in 1959, and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1964 from Johns Hopkins University. She also earned a Masters of Science in psychiatric nursing from the University of Maryland in 1967. From 1959 through 1964 she was employed at the Phipps Clinic, after which she became an instructor in psychiatric nursing at the Sheppard-Pratt Hospital. She was hired in the same position at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1967, which she held until 1969. Her career focused on education and theory.

Scope and Content

The Ruth Weiss Plumb Collection consists of her book “Confessions of a Healthy Neurotic” and correspondence.
