Biography

Raymond E. Lenhard was born in Baltimore. He received his B.A. in 1918 from the Johns Hopkins University and his M.D. in 1922 from the School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1927, maintained a private practice in orthopedics for over forty years in Baltimore, and was on the staff of several Baltimore hospitals. He concentrated in the treatment of polio in children.

Scope and Content

The Raymond E. Lenhard Collection spans his entire medical career. It includes newspaper clippings; programs; a privately published monograph by Lenhard about his mentor, orthopedist William Stevenson Baer (1973); a poem written to honor Baer, presumably by Lenhard, with an attached snapshot of Baer; and a typescript of an article, Curability of Congenital Deformities.
