Biography

Mary Cloud Bean was born Gala Water, Virginia. She received her nursing diploma in 1895. She was a private duty nurse, working often in the obstetrical and psychiatric wards at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was active in the Johns Hopkins Nurses Alumnae Association, serving on the Committee on the Life of Isabel Hampton Robb, the Writing of the History Committee, and the M. Adelaide Nutting Memorial Fund. She wrote opinions in the Alumnae Association magazine and revised Lavinia Dock’s Materia Medica for Nurses.

Scope and Content

The Mary Cloud Bean collection consists of her nursing diploma and Maryland State Nurses certificate.
