Biography

Lucia Lee Cabot Cipolla was born in 1926 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She attended Concord Academy in Massachusetts from 1940 to 1944 and received a BA in History from Smith College in 1948. She obtained her BSN from Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked at Cincinnati General Hospital from 1951 to 1953 and as a clinical instructor at the Jewish Hospital Association School of Nursing from 1954 to 1955. She taught home nursing courses as part of the American Red Cross in 1954. She retired from active nursing in 1955 but began working part-time at a state neuropsychiatric hospital in New Jersey in 1974. In 1985, she worked as an educational director at an osteopathic hospital and took a two-week nursing trip to China. She finally retired from nursing in 1999.

Scope and Content

The Lucia Lee Cabot Cipolla Collection includes her letter of admittance into the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing, a Johns Hopkins Hospital cap and apron, a surgical textbook, a series of six drawings of blood circulation, photographs of a candlelight ceremony, and photographs of her family celebrating her mother’s 100th birthday.
