Biography

Jonas H. Cohen was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He received an A.B. from the Johns Hopkins University in 1936 and a M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1940. Cohen completed two years of an Internal Medicine residency at Baltimore’s Sinai Hospital before being called to active military duty in 1942. He retired as a naval lieutenant colonel in 1946 and finished his post-graduate training in 1948 at Sinai Hospital. That same year he was appointed as an assistant in medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Cohen was appointed as an instructor in medicine in 1952, a position he held until his retirement from a private medical practice in Baltimore.

Scope and Content

The Jonas H. Cohen collection consists of letters addressed to Cohen from noted Johns Hopkins physicians Charles Austrian and Samuel Wolman. There is also a 1934 letter from Howard A. Kelly to Norman Cohen.
