Evelyn Gant Chesney was born in Brooksville, Florida. She received her nursing diploma from the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. Following graduation, she became a staff nurse in the Johns Hopkins Hospital general operating rooms. In 1959 she returned to Florida, and received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami in 1963.
The Evelyn Gant Chesney Collection contains photographs, and a nursing doll uniform consisting of a blue cotton long-sleeved dress, with white cuffs and collar, patch pockets and fly front; two organdy Graduate nursing caps with pleated headbands; two cotton student caps with JHH embroidered in blue on front; and package of miniature surgical gloves, “For Demonstration Only – Perry’s Latex Surgeon’s Gloves” in paper enclosure.
