Biography

Elliott H. Hutchins was born in Bowens, Maryland. He received his A.B. in 1902 and his A.M. in 1906, both from St. John’s College. He was awarded an M.D. in 1906 from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Hutchins became a member of the school of medicine faculty in 1919 and was a member of the Board of Police Surgeons of Baltimore from 1914 until 1950.

Scope and Content

The Elliott H. Hutchins Collection spans his entire medical career. It contains correspondence, publications, photographs, sketches, and some objects. Subject files include materials on gall bladder surgery, the Baltimore police department, and the International College of Surgeons. Personal items in the collection include a police license plate, a sweater, a surgical apron, and a Canadian patent.
