Biography

Betty Brizendine was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Dickinson College in 1939. She received her nursing diploma from Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She received her Master of Education in 1969. She worked in nursing education at Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, Baltimore Community College, and the American Red Cross. She was an active member of the Johns Hopkins Nurses’ Alumni Association and involved in efforts to document the school’s history.

Scope and Content

The Elizabeth Brizendine Collection consists of her nursing diploma and board certificate, programs, photos, uniforms and other artifacts. Additional material pertaining to Brizendine’s work on the nursing school’s history can be found in the records of the Johns Hopkins Nurses’ Alumni Association.
