Biography

Gustav J. Martin was born in Seattle. He received his B.S. from the University of Washington in 1932 and his Sc.D. in biochemistry from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1935. Martin was a researcher in the pharmaceutical industry for 30 years and wrote numerous books and scientific papers.

Scope and Content

The Gustav J. Martin Collection spans his entire career. It includes correspondence, reprints, articles, photographs, certificates, reports, and notes. Subjects covered include folk medicine, medicinal uses for plants, and the importance of hesperidin and ascorbic acids. A four-volume set of Martin’s reprints (1935-1962) is also included.
