Biography

Evelyn Pope was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her nursing diploma with the first graduating class of Johns Hopkins Hospital Traning School for Nurses in 1891. In 1895 she founded the Instructive Visiting Nurses Association of Baltimore. Her pioneering work focused on urban public health and education in Baltimore. In 1899 she married Johns Hopkins Hospital staff member Dr. Jere W. Lord. She became a Life Member of the Johns Hopkins Nurses Alumnae Association.

Scope and Content

The Evelyn Pope Lord Collection consists of her nursing diploma, as well as her copies of the Alumnae Association constitution and bylaws, reports and meeting minutes, and board of directors election results from 1895.
