William Morris Happ was born in Macon, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1911 with a B.A. He received a M.D. from the John Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1915. He was an intern at Baltimore City Hospitals, Bayview from 1915-1916. He also was a dispensary physician at the Harriet Lane Home from 1916 to 1917 before becoming a First Lieutenant with the John Hopkins Hospital Base Hospital 18. Upon his return, Happ was an instructor in Pediatrics from 1919-1921. In the 1926 Johns Hopkins Half Century Directory, Happ is listed as a physician in Los Angeles, California.
The William Happ Collection consists of 4 folders in the larger WW I collection. The collection includes WW I related clippings and ephemera and a diary covering the period June to December, 1917. As First Lieutenant, William M. Happ, M.O.R.C. Base Hospital 18, he recorded in the diary the names of commanding officers, staff surgeons, physicians and the daily activities of a military officer.
