Charity Babcock Fisk Collection

Biography

Charity Babcock was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She received her nursing diploma in 1897. During 1897 she served as a head nurse for the Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1898, during the Spanish American War, she served with the United States Army as a nurse at Fort McPherson, Georgia. She returned to Baltimore to work as head nurse in Dr. Osler’s ward at the Johns Hopkins Hospital for three years. She married John Pond Fisk in 1906. She was among the first contributors to the Johns Hopkins Nursing Historical Collection, and was active in the Alumnae Association’s Committee on the Writing of the History.

Scope and Content

The Charity Babcock Fisk collection contains a scrapbook holding photos, newspaper clippings, personal correspondence and official documents. This collection is a resource on nursing life during the Spanish American War.
