Margaret Elliott was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. She received her nursing diploma from Church Home and Infirmary School for Nurses in 1912. She spent her entire career at Church Home, acting as assistant superintendent of the school for nurses, instructor, director of instruction, assistant director of the hospital, director of nursing service, and finally as director of the School of Nursing and nursing service from 1950 to her retirement in 1956. She was honored in the naming of the Nash-Elliott Education Building in 1952. Her portrait was painted and displayed at Church Home and Hospital in 1955.
The Margaret Elliott Collection consists of correspondence, her student record, Red Cross membership card, certificate of appreciation from Church Home and Hospital, her oil portrait and other mementos. Additional original material pertaining to Elliott can be found in the records of the Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing.
