Biography

Hazel Leona Burke was born in Jenningston, West Virginia in 1913. She received her B.S. degree from Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia in 1934. After graduation from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1937, she was employed as assistant to the nurse in charge of Delivery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She served in World War II with the Johns Hopkins Hospital Base Hospital Unit 118. From 1946 to 1949 she was head nurse and assistant in instruction at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic.

Scope and Content

The Hazel Burke Collection consists of nursing caps and other items from service in World War II.
