The Chesney Archives will be closed from December 21 through January 1 for JHU winter holiday break.
The Chesney Archives includes collections of fine and decorative arts and material culture from the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries.
This large collection of more than 10,000 artifacts and artworks represents the history of the people and work of Johns Hopkins Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. These collections highlight the personalities of Johns Hopkins, demonstrate the tastes and cultural milieu of Baltimore residents, and document the changes in medical practice at one of the world’s premier medical institutions. The cultural properties enhance the archival holdings of the Medical Archives, complementing and enriching our holdings for our researchers.
Items in the collections are accessible for viewing, teaching, and research. We maintain files on the provenance of items in the Art and Artifact Collections. Please contact us regarding access to items in these collections.
