Tom Stiltz

Stiltz was born in Newark, Delaware, and at age twelve began taking art classes at the Delaware Art Museum. He would go on to earn a B.A. in painting and an M.A. in photography and design from the University of Delaware. Early on, Stiltz made a career in photography when he developed a method to print directly onto surfaces such as mirrors, frosted glass, and plastic laminates. He opened a design and photography business in Baltimore and became known for his imagery of political figures including Vice President Joe Biden, President George H.W. Bush, and Senators John McCain and Jacob Javits. Stiltz has shown his work at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York City, and in commercial spaces in California and elsewhere.

Stiltz did corporate photography for Johns Hopkins from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, including work for the Johns Hopkins publication The Dome. Since the mid-1990s, Stiltz has concentrated primarily on painting. His work has been exhibited in over 100 galleries around the world.
