Steven Polson

1962-

Polson was born in New York City, grew up near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and was a regular visitor to the museum. At age sixteen, he began his artistic studies at The Art Students’ League in New York City. He later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement for Science and Art in 1984.

He has won awards for his work, including an Elizabeth T. Greenshields Foundation Grant and The Allied Artists of America Gold Medal of Honor. Examples of his commissions include General Colin Powell, Madeleine Albright, and Condoleezza Rice for the United States Department of State; and Stephen Schwarzman, founder of The Glackstone Group for Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University.  

Polson has taught at The Art Student’s League, the Grand Central Academy, the Pratt Institute, and privately at his studio. He is a member of the Lotos Club in New York.
