Barbara Epstein Gruber

1975-

Gruber was born in Baltimore. She attended Catonsville Community College before receiving a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1997. Gruber also studied in the fine arts program at the University of Pennsylvania, then earned her MFA from Brooklyn College in 2000.

Gruber began teaching art at The Johns Hopkins University in 2000, at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2011, and at the Griffen Art Center in 2012. In addition to teaching at these three institutions, she also teaches art at The Yellow Barn in Glen Echo, Maryland. From 2015 to 2017, she taught at the Kentucky School of Art in Louisville.

Gruber has exhibited in many solo and group shows and has won Best in Show and Honorable Mention on national and regional levels. Many of her paintings and drawings are in private and corporate collections in the United States and Europe and have been noted in national publications.
