Photographic Collections

The Medical Archives holds over 400,000 photographic items, spanning collections formed by institutional departments during their course of work and collected by individuals associated with the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions from the 1880s to the present day.

The collections range in content from documentation of the early medical campus, to clinical photography and images of education and student life at Hopkins. As a whole, the Medical Archives photograph collections document the evolution of health care practice and education over the course of the 20th Century.

Search the Catalog for specific images.

The online catalog includes numerous digitized images as well as records of images that are not yet digitized. To limit your search of the catalog to images, select type = image on the advanced search screen. Our staff can also assist in locating images. When copyright law permits, we are happy to provide digital copies of images for a fee. Licensing and permission fees may also apply.
