Ida B. May was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a member of the first graduating class of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1891. She continued to work at Johns Hopkins Hopsital in the surgical clinic. She was active as a private duty nurse in the 1920s and 1930s.
