The Privacy Board is a joint institutional board of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins University schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. The role of the Privacy Board is to review and adjudicate applications for research using records that contain legally protected information. It is the charge of the Privacy Board to allow research using these institutional materials when it is legally possible and ethically responsible to do so.
Several institutional review boards serve the needs of the Johns Hopkins research community. The boards described here review applications for access to archival materials involving human subject research protected by the Common Rule for Protection of Human Subjects.
The Privacy Board of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions oversees archival policy and procedures for review and adjudication of applications for research in collections that contain identifiable health, student, and personnel information.
