118th General Hospital, 1942 - 1945

A collection of approximately 400 photos compiled by Mary Sanders Price while serving as Chief Nurse with the 118th General Hospital.  Includes photos of Australia and Leyte Island, of the Phillipines. While in service there she married the chaplain of the 118th General Hospital. Included are scenes of nurses and doctors, scenes are mostly of day to day non-patient care activities. In one photo Sanders leads Eleanor Roosevelt on a tour of facilities. 92.87 AMC.

Album, 118th General Hospital - Part II

Photos for this album (Parts I and II comprise approximately 450 photos) were taken and captioned by the U.S. Army Signal Corps. May 1942 - Sept. 1944.

The album begins in May 1942 with the embarkation of the 118th General Hospital from San Francisco, California to Sydney, Australia. Included are photos of the construction of the base buildings, patients, people at work, medical facilities, group portraits, and base activities at Syndey and Herne Bay. Other Australian locations photographed include Camp Edwards, Camp Pell, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St. Johns College, King George V Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, the 6th Portable Hospital. Photographs include visiting dignitaries: General MacArthur, Eleanor Roosevelt, and entertainers: Bob Hope, and Joe E. Brown.
