The Johns Hopkins University opened at different times over
a span of nearly three decades (1889 - 1918). The delays were
largely due to financial shortages and the need to raise additional
funds. The opening dates of the various health institutions
are as follows: The Johns Hopkins Hospital (1889) After nearly seventy-five years of operation as a diplomaprogram, The Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing closed(1973). Nine years later (1982), The Johns Hopkins UniversitySchool of Nursing opened with an offering of both undergraduateand graduate degree programs.
